How to Make a High Protein Dairy Free Drink

May 2, 2011 07:31 PM
  • This is how to make a drink I just now concocted which is dairy free and completely substitutable. If you want to change some of the ingredients the recipe will still work.
  • I added one tablespoon of William's and Sonoma Gingerbread Butter for a bit of depth of flavor but it's not absolutely necessary. The flavors can be changed up to suit your own preferences.
  • I used a frozen banana because it adds thickness to the drink without adding a lot of flavor and when blended frozen banana is very smooth. I have not yet tried other fruit with this drink but it's possible that frozen cherries or frozen mango might work too. It all depends on what you prefer this is just my flavor choice.
  • I added almonds and walnuts because it's all I had in the pantry but macadamia nuts would work really well in this drink too.
  • Here are the directions to the recipe-----
  • A Ninja blender or food processor or Magic Bullet will work best for proper blending.
  • Add to blender:
  • One peeled frozen banana that's been chopped into chunks.
  • 1.5 oz of slivered almonds
  • 1.5 oz of walnuts
  • one teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4-6 oz Almond milk
  • one teaspoon banana extract
  • one tablespoon of hot cocoa mix or you can add one tablespoon of cocoa powder and two tablespoons of simple syrup (simple syrup is recommended because sugar crystals will probably not blend as well and would leave it gritty.)
  • blend in the blender until smooth and if needed add ice to thicken or add more almond milk.
  • Quite tasty and feel free to substitute flavored extracts or soy milk.
  • Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy
